CFA Institute Congratulates New CIPM Certificants
CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals that promotes the highest standards of professional excellence, announces that 97 candidates (51 percent) have passed the October 2013 Expert level exam of the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) program.
Upon meeting the membership requirements and earning the CIPM designation, these successful candidates will join the 1,081 industry professionals worldwide who hold the CIPM designation, distinguishing them for their commitment to professional integrity and the client’s best interests.
The CIPM program offers practice-based training in investment portfolio performance evaluation and risk measurement that helps industry professionals ethically evaluate and communicate investment performance to optimize results for firms and investors. Approximately 70 percent of the curriculum and readings cover advanced performance and risk analysis (measurement, attribution, appraisal, manager selection). The remaining 30 percent covers ethical and professional standards, including how to use the Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS®). Successful CIPM candidates include financial advisors, investment consultants, portfolio managers, investment performance analysts, client relationship managers, marketing managers, compliance officers, and risk managers, among others.
“As confirmed by a recent global Investor Trust study co-produced by CFA Institute, trust is the most important consideration when an investor hires an investment manager,” said Rahul Keshap, head, Program Management. “These new CIPM certificants have demonstrated that they are deeply knowledgeable investment performance professionals committed to their clients’ best interests and their own professional excellence. By mastering and promoting high ethical and professional standards, they are already making a difference in restoring trust in the industry, and we congratulate them on their achievement.”
In total, 192 candidates in 24 countries took the three-hour, computer-based Expert level exam. To earn the certificate, a candidate must register and pass two exams, become a regular member of the CIPM Association, and meet professional experience requirements. The CIPM program applies best practices in investment analysis techniques through a self-directed curriculum and tests proficiency in professional ethics, performance evaluation, and investment reporting.
In addition, 63 percent of 307 candidates in 37 countries who took the Principles level of the CIPM exam have passed. The Principles level exam emphasizes investment tools and inputs necessary for performance evaluation and the provisions of the GIPS standards. Candidates who passed the Principles level exam are eligible to register for the Expert level of the program.
Registration for both levels in the April 2014 examination window remains open through January 31, 2014. The CIPM curriculum is offered online and examinations are administered during two periods each year at test centers worldwide.
