Program focuses on how to make effective investment decisions by applying best practices in investment analysis techniques

CFA Institute, the global association of investment management professionals, announces that 52 percent of candidates who sat for the final Expert level exam in the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) program passed the September 2016 exam. Pending verification of experience and membership requirements, these successful candidates will be able to use the CIPM designation in their appraisal and selection of investment managers, while honing the strong investment analysis and presentation skills demanded by clients and employers in the industry.

The CIPM Program offers practice-based training, and promotes professional and ethical excellence in portfolio performance evaluation and risk management, enabling certificants to evaluate and communicate investment performance in a transparent and insightful way for asset management firms and investors. Successful CIPM candidates include investment consultants, portfolio managers active in manager selection, financial advisors, and client relationship managers, among others. There are a total of 1,635 investment professionals who hold the CIPM designation and who have demonstrated their commitment to serving society and their clients’ interests first through professionalism and integrity.

“Employers in the investment industry expect a high level of expertise from investment professionals at a time when the industry is rapidly changing to meet the growing needs of clients,” said Thomas Porter, director, CIPM Program. “CIPM certificants have gained the necessary knowledge of the portfolio evaluation process to accurately inform investment decisions, including manager selection.”

To earn the CIPM designation a candidate must enroll and pass two exams (Principles and Expert levels), become a regular member of the CIPM Association, and meet professional experience requirements. The CIPM Program applies best practices in investment analysis techniques through a self-directed curriculum and tests proficiency in professional ethics, performance evaluation, and investment reporting. Approximately 70 percent of the CIPM curriculum covers advanced performance evaluation and the remainder centers on ethical and professional standards.

In August, the CIPM Program introduced a waiver for CFA charterholders and candidates who have completed the CFA Level III exam. They are now granted an exemption from taking the Principles level exam and are eligible to proceed directly to the Expert level of the CIPM Program. This reduced the number of CFA charterholders who took and passed this level over prior years.

Registration for both levels in the March 2017 examination window remains open through January 31, 2017. The CIPM curriculum is offered online and examinations are administered each year in March and September at test centers worldwide.
