Moscow State University and University of Lausanne Students Named CFA Institute Research Challenge 2019 EMEA Region Champions
A team of future investment management professionals from Moscow State University, Russia and University of Lausanne, Switzerland beat 41 other teams from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) to be named Regional Champions in the 13th Annual CFA Institute Research Challenge at the regional finals yesterday evening in Zurich, Switzerland. The road to the finals begins each year in the autumn with local competitions.
Drawing teams from around the world, the Research Challenge is an annual competition which invites university students to conduct in-depth analysis of a listed company, with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics delivered through the CFA Institute network. Students are measured on their analytical, valuation, research, reporting, and presentation skills, and gain real-world experience that helps them to stand out as they pursue careers in finance.
The Moscow State University and University of Lausanne teams will now progress to the Global Final in New York on the 25th of April. In total, 197 students on 43 teams from universities across EMEA participated in the 2018-2019 regional final in Zurich. More than 2,000 students from 400 universities and 60 countries across the EMEA region took part in the competition.
“The Moscow State University and University of Lausanne teams have proven real strength in financial analysis. We are always so impressed by the skill and tenacity demonstrated by all the young men and women who participate. To triumph over such stiff competition is a real achievement.” said Paul Smith, CFA, President and CEO at CFA Institute. “In addition to giving students an opportunity to test their financial acumen, the Research Challenge requires them to demonstrate commitment to ethics and principled conduct, which are equally critical to successful financial careers and for maintaining market integrity.”
Smith continued, “We would also like to thank the CFA charterholders, professors and other investment professionals who generously give their time to mentor and train all of the competitors so that they can achieve their personal best. This generosity benefits both their local communities and future of capital markets.”
