189 new certificants poised to drive more effective investment decisions to maximize investor value

CFA Institute, the global association of investment management professionals, reports that 54 percent of the candidates who sat for the Level II exam in the Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM®) program in March 2019 have passed. These successful candidates can now use the CIPM designation to demonstrate their mastery of skills in evaluating investment performance and risk, delivering actionable insights to shape investment decisions, selecting superior fund managers, and communicating performance clearly and effectively to investors.

“The CIPM is unique in its primary focus on portfolio performance evaluation for portfolio managers and investment consultants,” said Stephen Horan, CFA, CIPM, Managing Director of Credentialing at CFA Institute. “As either continuing professional development for CFA®charterholders or a learning path for performance analysts, the CIPM designation signals the highest level of professionalism, competency, and ethical standards.”

The CIPM Program contributes to the professionalization of investment management by enabling managers to evaluate risk and return attributes of portfolio performance and communicate them in a transparent and insightful way. Successful CIPM candidates include Portfolio Managers, Investment Consultants active in manager selection, Investment Performance Analysts, Financial Advisors, and Risk Analysts, among others. There are now approximately 2,500 investment professionals worldwide who hold the CIPM designation.

The rigorous CIPM curriculum is based on an advanced body of knowledge that is continually reviewed and updated by more than 1,000 active investment practitioners around the world to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant and reflective of current practice in investment performance evaluation. Approximately 70 percent of the CIPM curriculum covers advanced performance evaluation and the remainder focuses on ethical and professional standards.

To earn the CIPM designation a candidate must enroll in and pass two exams (Levels I and II), become a regular member of CFA Institute, and meet professional experience requirements. CFA charterholders and candidates who have completed the CFA Level III exam can bypass CIPM Level I and proceed directly to Level II.

Registration for both Level I and II of the September 2019 examination remains open through July 31, 2019. The CIPM curriculum is offered online and examinations are administered each year in March and September at test centers worldwide.
